With the 2025 book release calendar looking more promising, I have put together this list of 192 anticipated books to add to your shelf.

Looking Back at 2024

I still can’t believe 2024 is over. It was a whirlwind of a year, especially as a book lover. Between inflation and the limited availability of books in Nigeria, I missed out on many releases I was dying to read. Honestly, that frustration was one more reason on my “why I need to Japa” list.

Building My Bookshelf Dream

But if there’s one thing about me, it’s this: I never stop dreaming about the ultimate bookshelf. 2025 feels like a fresh start, and I have plans. I’ve loved books since childhood, but I only began building a physical library in 2023. Since then, I’ve been learning the joys and the struggles of collecting books.

Reading Without Pressure
One thing I’ve noticed is the stigma around book collecting. People often judge collectors if they don’t read every single book they own, as if reading is some kind of competition. For me, reading isn’t about numbers. It’s an activity that brings joy, growth, and comfort. My library is about passion, not pressure.

Why This List Exists

With the 2025 book release calendar looking so promising, I created this list of 192 anticipated titles. They’re organised by month, and I’ll keep updating as publishers announce more. Whether you love mysteries, heartfelt literary fiction, or speculative stories that bend reality, there’s something here for you.

A Note to New Readers

If you’re new here, welcome! 👋 I’m Nafisa, the mind behind Novellisteer, a multipotentialite woman and first-daughter space where I share in the love and smell of books. My reading tastes are as eclectic as they come. One day I’m deep in an emotional Asian film, the next I’m racing through a thriller.

Looking Ahead

I’m hopeful that 2025 will be the year I finally get my hands on all the books my heart desires. My “To Buy” list and TBR aren’t getting any shorter. Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post where I’ll share more about the art (and joy) of book collecting. For now, let’s dive into the treasures waiting for us in 2025.

Note

  • This list is not exhaustive, as we did not include tons of books. The best way to stay up to date with new books throughout the year is by subscribing to our newsletter here.
  • Please remember that for all 2025 book releases, publishing dates are subject to change.
